Keeping resolutions is usually tough. Instead, take a light, perhaps humorous, look at how to make resolutions that are easy to keep!

Every year thousands of people make resolutions that they can’t or won’t keep. Why should the struggle be so hard all the time? Sure, self improvement is a laudable thing. But isn’t part of self-improvement building esteem? Well, here are some ways to be more successful in a new year’s resolutions!

Keep it Simple – No Drastic Resolutions

When setting goals for a new year, it's best to avoid drastic changes! Big change is hard. Little change is easy. If being more generous is the resolution, for example, start at home.

Don’t give all that spare change (speaking of change) to the guy on the street, put it in a jar until there’s enough money for a useful purchase, whether it's a game of fussball or a new outfit.

Take a Look at Where You’re Already Going

Direction – people are always looking for better direction. Who’s to say there is a better direction? Where is life headed right now? If life is taking the direction of gaining 10 pounds every holiday and never losing that weight, why not go with the flow?

This year, resolve to gain at least 8 pounds when the holidays roll around. That way when 10 are gained the resolution is not only made, but exceeded. That means success was greater than anticipated!

Make All Resolutions Fun

Everybody is so serious about their resolutions that if they were all kept the world would soon be a boring place. Instead make resolutions that are fun to keep! Why not make a resolution to sleep in every Saturday? Why not make a resolution to goof off and do interesting things at least once a month? And why not make a resolution to keep up the good pranks you’ve been playing on your spouse or workmates? So what if they end up hanging you in the broom closet by April 2nd. It was fun while it lasted!

Twist it Up a Little Bit

Change the normal resolutions a little to make them more interesting. If losing weight this year is the goal (only the most common resolution and the least likely to be kept), then try to think of a way to make that humorous and fun. How does one do that? Losing weight isn’t funny. Or it is? Substitution is always good. Losing weight isn’t easy, since there has to be a realizable plan to make it work. Why not substitute those fatty foods for something fun instead? Instead of a burger, have a martini. A couple of those and the appetite will be completely forgotten about. And it won’t be an issue for at least another year, when the next resolution might be to stay sober for more than a few hours at a time. And don’t forget the vegetables! Hmmm.... now what's good with vegetables? And can lettuce be deep fried?
